THE following Catechetical Lessons, which have appeared from week to week in a large suburban parish, differ from most others in requiring no book but the Bible to enable the learner to answer all the questions that are proposed in them. The Compiler has found them useful in his own. Church, in leading his young parishioners, of all classes, to search the Scriptures. They have also been employed by many of his friends in other localities, to whom he has privately sent them, not only as texts for catechising, but also as framework for a course of expository lectures, and as material for a course of lessons for Sunday-schools. He now offers them to the public, in the hope that they may be more extensively useful. Compiled, as they have been, from time to time, in the midst of much parochial work, they neither present so complete a unity as he could wish, nor, though they are the result of some research, can they lay claim to much originality.
