Among the many admirers of Theodore Parker, there has long been an urgent demand for a less voluminous biography than that written by Rev. John Weiss. To meet this demand, and to present the life of Theodore Parker so simply and effectively as to secure for it the popular attention which it justly merits, has been the aim of Mr. Frothingham. He has given a large number of Parker's letters and journals not included in Mr. Weiss's work; he has written in the light reflected upon Parker's words and efforts by the momentous events which have agitated this country within the last fifteen years, and which have brought out in bold relief the sagacity, wisdom, and heroism of Theodore Parker's career; and he has written so candidly, and with so profound an appreciation of Parker's characteristic qualities, that his book is of surpassing interest, and must have a wide circulation,

Darwinism Discussed by Dr. Hodge.

What is Darwinism?

By CHARLES IIODGE, D.D., LL.D., of Princeton Theological Seminary, author of " Systematic
Theology," etc. One vol., 12mo, cloth.....
.$1.50

........

........

A treatise upon this subject by the ablest living American theologian is sure to command the widest and most respectful attention. Its aim is simply to answer the questions asked in the title of the volume. An answer is needed, because Mr. Darwin's theory as to the origin of species is a mat ter of general interest, and because great difference of opinion exists in this country as to what that the ory really is. The answer is sought from three sources: first, from Mr. Darwin's own writings; second, from the exposition given of the theory by its avowed advocates; and third, from the character of the objections urged against it by its opponents. Such an ex imination, by so clear a thinker and so vigorous and powerful a writer as Dr. Hodge, must result in clearing this discussion from much that is extraneous, and in placing the real issues involved distinctly before all who may be interested in having a thorough understanding of them.

A New Work by Dr. Bushnell.

Forgiveness and Law.

By HORACE BUSHNELL, D. D., author of "The Vicarious Sacrifice," etc. One vol.
12mo, cloth...................
.$1.75

"The Vicarious Sacrifice" is one of the most notable contributions ever made to American theological literature, and this volume, "Forgiveness and Law," derives additional interest and importance from the fact that it is designed to retire the last half, or parts III. and IV., of the "Vicarious Sacrifice." For the exposition of the atonement doctrine which he there gave Dr. Bushnell has substi tuted what he now regards as a more Scriptural and better view. The reader will at once see the same hand, and, to a great extent, the same mind in this new exposition, which will be eagerly anticipated by all interested in theological discussions.
