by the prayers of the faithful, who enjoy the privilege of meeting in Thy house; send Thy good Spirit to be his Comforter; and give him grace so to take Thy visitation, that it may turn to his endless joy and happiness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For an Aged and Infirm Person.

0 LORD God, who hast made the days of

man as a span long, and his age even as nothing in respect of Thee; forgive, we pray Thee, this Thy servant all the manifold transgressions which in the long course of many years he hath committed against Thee; and enable him to spend what yet remaineth of his life in Thy fear, and to Thy glory. Accept his prayers and services, weak and imperfect though they be. Give him grace so to number his days that he may apply his heart unto wisdom. Let his loins be girded about, and his light burning, that he may be ready for Thy coming, O Lord, at whatever hour it shall please Thee to call him. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our Saviour. Amen.

For one about to submit to an Operation.

MOST powerful and gracious Lord God, who dwellest in heaven, but beholdest all things below; look down, we pray Thee, upon this Thy servant, who in his great distress cries unto Thee for help. He confesses that when he has been safe, and all things have been quiet about him, he has forgotten Thee, his God, and has gone astray from Thy commandments. But now he sees how terrible Thou art, and implores Thy mercy, that, being delivered from this distress, he may live to serve Thee, and to glorify Thy Name. Hear, Lord, and save him for the infinite merits of Thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

For an Insensible Person.

LORD Jesu Christ, who, for the faith and at the prayer of his friends, didst restore the sick of the palsy; even so reject not, but graciously receive, our prayers for this our brother, here lying insensible under Thy chastening hand, and dispel the clouds of darkness which obscure his mind, and make him

a companion for the dead. But if it be Thy will to remove him hence in the state of insensibility, pardon, we beseech Thee, all his offences, and accept his former preparation and repentance. Receive him into the arms of Thy mercy, that this short night of sorrow may be turned into everlasting day, through Thy merits, O blessed Jesu, who with the Father and the Holy Ghost, art one God world without end.

For a Sick Woman with Child.

ALMIGHTY God, the Helper of all that put their trust in Thee, look down upon this woman Thy servant, whom Thou hast afflicted with weakness upon weakness, having added to childbearing the burden of grievous sickness. Let Thy strength be made perfect in her weakness, and as pains and sorrows take hold upon her, inspire her with fresh courage to rely upon Thee. Grant that she may patiently and cheerfully wait till the days are accomplished that she should be delivered, and then shorten her pains, and make her the joyful mother of a healthy child, which may be an instrument of Thy glory here, and, together

with herself, a blessed inhabitant of Thy heavenly kingdom hereafter, through Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

For one in Want of Sleep.

GRACIOUS Lord, hear our prayers on behalf of this Thy servant, whose eyes Thou holdest waking, so that in the night-season he takes no rest. He looks up to Thee, seeking sleep to ease his pains, and refresh his weakness, but finds it not. O merciful God, let it not always fly from him, but let his wearied eyes at length sink in slumber, and do Thou make his sleep sweet unto him. But if Thou delayest to bestow the blessing of rest upon his body, let his soul refresh itself in the bosom of Thy love; let him remember Thee upon his bed, and meditate upon Thee in the night-watches, and let the thought of Thy tender mercies be his comfort, till Thou dost see fit to relieve him; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For one troubled with Constant Sleep. MERCIFUL God, let not this deep sleep, which has fallen upon this Thy servant, prove to him the sleep of death. Make it the

sleep of one who is recovering, to relieve and refresh him, and do Thou awaken him from it in Thine own good time, that he may praise Thy holy Name. But if Thou hast decreed thereby to take him to Thyself, O Lord, remember and accept his former prayers and repentance. Wash away his sins with the Blood of Jesus, and when he awakes in the next world, let him find himself surrounded with the light of Thy glory. Hear these our prayers for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
