Whereas, The Board of Education has requested that the lease be renewed with the understanding that the ground floor only be used for school purposes, so as to enable the school to continue until the new School 84, now in course of erection, is completed; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund hereby approve of and consent to the execution, by the Board of Education, of a renewal of the lease to the City from Mrs. Mary A. Williamson Boyd, of the Williamson Building, at the corner of Potter and Steinway avenues, Long Island City, Borough of Queens, used as an annex to Public School 8, for a term of one year from February 15, 1904, at an annual rental of two thousand dollars ($2,000), payable quarterly; otherwise, upon the same terms and conditions as contained in the existing lease. The Commissioners of the Sinking Fund, in authorizing this lease, do so with the understandng that the ground floor of the building only shall be used for school purposes, and that any occupation of the building for school purposes other than the ground floor will be without authority; the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund deeming that it would be for the interests of the City that a lease of the premises for the purposes specified should be made.

The report was accepted and the resolution unanimously adopted.

At this point the Chairman of the Finance Committee, Board of Aldermen, arrived, took his seat in the Board, and thereafter participated in the proceedings.

The Comptroller presented the following report of the Appraiser of Real Estate and offered the following resolution, relative to a renewal of the leases of premises corner Westchester and Greene avenues, and premises at One Hundred and Fortyfifth street and College avenue, for the President of the Borough of The Bronx: January 5, 1904.

Hon. EDWARD M. GROUT, Comptroller:

SIR-In a communication under date of December 18, 1893, Hon. Louis F. Haffen, President of the Borough of The Bronx, requests the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund to authorize a renewal of two leases for premises occupied by The City of New York, office of the President of the Borough of The Bronx. One, located on the southeast corner of Westchester turnpike and Green lane, a plot 50 by 100 feet, at an annual rental of $100 (owner, Mary E. Moore), lease of which expires January 1, 1904.

At a meeting of the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund held December 24, 1902 (see Minutes of Sinking Fund, page 1173), the renewal of this lease was authorized for a term of one year at an annual rental of $100, payable quarterly, with the privilege of two successive renewals. I would respectfully recommend that advantage be taken of one of the renewals, and that the Commissioners of the

Sinking Fund authorize a renewal upon the same terms and conditions as is in present existing lease.

President Haffen also requests a renewal of the lease of the five lots fronting on One Hundred and Forty-fifth street and College avenue, and two lots fronting on One Hundred and Forty-fourth street (owner, Mott Haven Company; rental, $700 per annum), lease of which expires on February 10, 1904.

A renewal of this lease was authorized by the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund at a meeting held on June 10, 1903 (see Minutes, Sinking Fund, page 538), and I would respectfully recommend that the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund authorize a renewal of the lease of the building and vacant ground containing seven City lots, five in One Hundred and Forty-fifth street, fronting on College avenue, and two on One Hundred and Forty-fourth street, west of College avenue, 'for a term of one year from February 10, 1903, at an annual rental of $700, payable quarterly; the Mott Haven Company, lessors.

I. The plot of land situated on the southeast corner of Westchester and Greene avenues, Borough of The Bronx, for a term of one year, from January 1, 1904, at an annual rental of one hundred dollars ($100), payable quarterly, and on the same terms and conditions as contained in the existing lease; Mary E. Moore, lessor.

2. The building and vacant ground containing seven street lots, five in One Hundred and Forty-fifth street, fronting on College avenue, and two in One Hundred and Forty-fourth street, west of College avenue, for a term of one year, from February 10, 1904, at an annual rental of seven hundred dollars ($700), payable quarterly, and on the same terms and conditions as contained in the existing lease; The Mott Haven Company, lessors.

-the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund deeming the said rents fair and reasonable and that it would be for the interests of the City that such leases be made. The report was accepted and the resolution unanimously adopted.

The following communication was received from the Department of Water Supply, Gas and Electricity, relative to the renewal of the leases of premises No. 231 East Seventy-ninth street, and rooms in the Oriental Bank Building, corner Grand street and Bowery, Borough of Manhattan:

Payne, of premises on the northeast corner of Washington avenue and One Hundred and Sixty-sixth street, Borough of The Bronx, for the use of the Department of Water Supply, Gas and Electricity, for a term of one year from January 1, 1904, at an annual rental of six hundred (600) dollars, payable quarterly, and upon the same terms and conditions as contained in the existing lease-the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund deeming the said rent fair and reasonable, and that it would be for the interests of the City that such lease be made.

Which was unanimously adopted.

The Comptroller presented the following report of the Appraiser of Real Estate and offered the following resolution, relative to an amendment to resolution authorizing a lease of premises at No. 86 Fourth street, Long Island City, Borough of Queens, for the Police Department (see Minutes, 1903, page 963):

January 7, 1904.

SIR-The Commissioners of the Sinking Fund at a meeting held October 16, 1903, adopted a resolution authorizing the renewal of a lease of the top floor of premises No. 86 Fourth street, Long Island City, Borough of Queens, for a term of one year from December 1, 1903, at a rental of $20 per month, otherwise upon the same terms and conditions as contained in the present existing lease, for the use of the Police Department; Margaret Moran, lessor. It seems that the owner is not Margaret Moran, but Thomas Hopkins, of No. 174 Fourth street, Long Island City.

I would respectfully recommend that the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund adopt a resolution amending their resolution of October 16 by substituting the name Thomas Hopkins as lessor, in place of Margaret Moran.

substituting the name of "Thomas Hopkins" as the lessor in place of "Margaret Moran."

The report was accepted and the resolution unanimously adopted.

The Comptroller presented the following report of the Appraiser of Real Estate and offered the following resolution, relative to an amendment to resolution authorizing a lease of premises No. 1772 Pitkin avenue, Borough of Brooklyn, for the Fire Department (see Minutes, 1903, page 952):

SIR-The Commissioners of the Sinking Fund at a meeting held October 16, 1903, adopted a resolution authorizing the renewal of the lease of No. 1772 Pitkin avenue, Borough of Brooklyn, for a term of one year from January 1, 1904, at a rental of $1,000 per annum, payable quarterly, otherwise upon the same terms and conditions as are contained in the present existing lease, for the use of the Fire Department; John Ennis, lessor.

It seems that the owner is not John Ennis, but Louis May, of No. 5803 Third avenue, Borough of Brooklyn,

I would therefore respectfully recommend that the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund adopt a resolution amending their resolution of October 16, 1903, by substituting the name of Louis May as lessor instead of the name “John Ennis." Respectfully submitted for approval,
