Werner School Book Co., Chicago, Ill.

"The Arithmetic Primer." By Frank H. Hall. An independent number book designed to precede any series of arithmetics.

Eldredge & Brother, Philadelphia, Pa.

"A History of the United States" by Francis Newton Thorpe of the University of Pennsylvania. Designed for Junior Classes in public and private schools. In treating the subject under consideration the author has kept in mind the persons for whom the work is designed, and has made careful selection of the matter best adapted to that end.

George W. Jacobs & Co., Philadelphia, Pa.

"Conrad Weiser and the Indian Policy of Colonial Pennsylvania" by Joseph S. Walton. The author is already known to the teachers of Ohio through "Stories of Pennsylvania, by Brumbaugh and Walton, one of the popular books recommended for the Pupils' Reading Course in Ohio. The volume of four hundred pages is an exceedingly valuable contribution to the early history of our country, and throws much light upon the actions of the Indians in the great conflict between the French and the English. The life and work of Conrad Weiser, a man of remarkable influ

ence with the Indians, because of his integrity, and ability to grasp the spirit of the Indian language, are described in an exceedingly interesting manner by the author who has devoted much time and study to the subject. We have read the book with great profit, and can earnestly recommend it to all teachers and students of history.

Scott, Foresman & Co., Chicago, Ill.

"The Expansion of the American People, Social and Territorial," by Edwin Earl Sparks, Ph. D., Assistant Professor of American History, the University of Chicago.

I his volume, which we have read with pleasure and profit, is a most. timely discussion of a topic which is of great interest to all Americans, and especially to those who study American history. The author states in his introduction that "The intention has been to collect the local history of the American people in one volume, trusting that its perusal will inculcate additional reverence not alone for American statesmen but also for the plain people, whose names perish, but whose work remains in the structure of the great republic." In twenty-six well written chapters, containing four hundred and fifty pages, this intention is admirably carried out. In addition to the merit of the book which will in itself recommend it to students of history, the fact that Professor Sparks, the author, is an Ohio boy, who was educated in our State University, and who was for many years, an Ohio teacher and superintendent, will insure for his treatment of an important subject additional consideration on the part of Ohio teachers.

AND THEIR FRIENDS, WHO EXPECT TO VISIT

Fan-American Exposition

BUFFALO, AND NIAGARA FALLS NEXT SUMMER,

will be pleased to learn that the management of this paper have made arrangements with The Teacher's Pan-Tourist Co., a reliable company of Buffalo school men, to send several Personally Conducted Parties of Teachers and other reliable people to the Exposition during the coming summer.

These excursions will start from Columbus and other central points each week during the summer, and will be arranged to meet the needs of any teacher who desires to visit the Exposition.

REGISTRATION.

Teachers desiring to avail themselves of the privileges of these tours may register for them now by sending us their application, accompanied by the first payment of Two Dollars, on receipt of which we will issue a certificate for the tour desired, the balance to be paid at least ten days before the time of starting. The first party will leave Columbus about July (exact date will be announced later) and will be in charge of Mr. F. B. Pearson, or some satisfactory person selected by him, going and coming. On arrival in Buffalo the party will be met by the guides of The Teachers' Pan-Tourist Co. and taken to their rooms, which will have been reserved in the best homes of that city. Three days will be taken for visiting the Pan-American Exposition, one day for an educational sidetrip to Niagara Falls and Frontier, one day for a visit to the most interesting points in and about Buffalo, and one day will be left optional with the teacher. All expenses for board and rooms, the care and handling of baggage, transportation on the side-trips, guides, and three admissions will be paid by The Teachers" Pan-Tourist Co. and teachers will be left free to enjoy themselves.

The cost for the entire week will be $28, plus the railroad fare to Buffalo and return, which will be half fare or less, we have every reason to suppose. However, those teachers who may desire to make a shorter or a cheaper trip may join the excursions and while in Buffalo be entertained in The Teachers' Tenting Colony, which will be explained in the prospectus of the Buffalo company, at a cost of $25 with the Niagara and Buffalo side-trips, or $16 without the sidetrips. Furthermore, any teacher desiring only that he be found a respectable room and direction while in Buffalo, may take out a Membership Certificate in the Tourist Co. at a cost of only $1, paying his own expenses while in Buffalo. We have investigated the responsibility of this company and assure Ohio teachers that they are strictly reliable and will do all they agree, and give their patrons a thoroughly enjoyable trip as outlined.

Write us at once for full particulars, and register early, that the Buffalo arrangements may be completed while the best accommodations can be reserved. If you need any services not mentioned let us hear from you promptly, as we are assured that the Buffalo company will procure whatever you need at the most. reasonable prices to be obtained.
