Classification of Additions.

For the convenience of those who use the Bulletin, the following explanation of the classification is repeated. Under the first heading will be found works General or miscellaneous in their character, and also general bibliographies. The section entitled Theology and Philosophy includes biblical and liturgical literature, church history, religious biography, mythology, metaphysics, logic, and psychology. Under Law and Sociology are placed works on international law, forensic medicine, political economy, the science of government, finance, commerce, statistics, education, charities, temperance, and hygiene. Science embraces the natural and physical sciences, medicine, veterinary surgery, mathematics, and astronomy. Among the Useful Arts are included industrial science, agriculture, horticulture, engineering, the art of war, fieldsports, and games. The subjects included in the

class Fine Arts and Archæology are architecture, music, costumes, the dramatic art, and numismatics. In the division Philology are placed all works relating to classical and Oriental literature, and editions of classic authors, as well as works on the study of language. The class Literature embraces, besides the modern literatures, elocution, rhetoric, and literary criticism. History and Geography includes general biography, genealogy, heraldry, voyages, and topography.

The number of titles in the divisions of Science and Useful Arts is unusually large, in this number of the Bulletin, on account of recent purchases of books on botany and horticulture by the Agricultu ral Experiment Station. A number of titles in the division of History are unavoidably deferred to the next Bulletin.
