The authoress was a member of Miss Sellon's Devonport Sisterhood for a number of years, but retired from it on her return from the Crimea, on the ground of the increasing developement of conventional rules. The internal life of Miss Sellon's establishment fills a considerable portion of the work, which, however, relates to all similar establishments in England, as the Convent of the Good Shepherd at Hammersmith, the Sisterhood at Clewer, &c. The author remarks that she has no wish to decry Sisterhoods," which she believes to be our greatest hope for reaching the fallen and needy."
