ADNEY, Tappan.

The Klondike stampede [of 1897-1898]. 1900..

...917.98 A23

"As a close, even if incoherent, statement of the minute happenings of the years 1897 and 1898, and of personal experiences during the 'cruder' and more interesting period of the Klondike stampede, the book may be read with both interest and profit... As a guide to the 'modern' Klondike...the book has little value." Nation, 1900. Numerous illustrations from drawings and photographs by the author. BALCH, Thomas Willing.

Mr. Garland's account of his failure ...to reach his destination...is pathetic to a degree, but it presents with wonderful vividness the hardships and miseries of the unknown trail...As a personal narrative in connection with an historic movement it will be read with much interest, even long after the movement itself has ceased." .917.98 H44

"Account of a journey by Mrs. Henderson from Chicago to Tacoma,
Unalashka, St. Michael's and up the Yukon to Dawson. In it
are recorded the impressions of a traveller who appears to have
been wholly inexperienced in frontier life, exceptionally credu-
lous of gossip, avid of sprightly tales, and careless in verifying
random statements. Her adventures are related in a lively and
amusing manner...The brightness and good nature, superficiality,
inaccuracy, and cocksureness of the average American young woman
stand out in bold relief on every page." Nation, 1898.

solved the perplexities of research and original composition by lifting
bodily the work of Alfred Deberle, Histoire de l'Amérique du sud...

considerable additions there are two: the earlier pages of chapter

has given us a faithful rendering of his Spanish text." American
