Holocaust: A History

Naslovnica
John Murray, 2002 - Broj stranica: 444
Relates the history of the Holocaust against the background of European political developments in the 1930s-40s and the preceding epoch. Contends that the atmosphere in Europe which allowed the Holocaust to happen had roots in the Middle Ages. The ideological background for mass murder was laid in the 18th-early 20th centuries. The brutalities of World War I and the Armenian genocide paved the way for the Nazi genocide of Jews. The Germans were not the only perpetrators of the Holocaust, and the Jews were not the only victims; however, the lot of the Jews was much worse than that of the Poles, Russians, etc. Discusses the impact of Nazi anti-Jewish policies on the Jews and attempts of Jews to withstand their death spiritually. Some valiant non-Jews tried to rescue Jews, but most of the world remained indifferent.
