"The Abbé de la Rue, in his Essais historiques sur les bardes' (Caen, 1834), vol. iii, pp. 139-145, asserts that the name of the author's family was derived from the lands of Ros near Caen; and that some of its members had passed into England, and so on. These assertions have been repeated by Édouard Frère, Bibliographe normand,' 1858, and by other writers. But they offer no proofs; and they were evidently quite unaware that Ros (now generally written Ross, but more correctly Rhôs, the vowel being originally long) used to be one of the commonest place-names in Wales and the adjoining English counties. Rhôs is merely the Welsh for moor."- H. L. D. Ward, Catalogue of romances in the department of manuscripts in the British Museum, vol. ii, 1893, p. 409.

The above version is transcribed from MS. 19,525 in the Bibliothèque Nationale. This Ms. omits several passages, among others the eight lines at the end giving the name of Adam de Ros. Ward, pp. 409-412, gives extracts from the Cotton MS., Vespasian A. vii in the British Museum containing this poem, including the Epilogue omitted from the Paris Ms.

Of these, only the second [?] portion has been published by Paolo Perez in the volume of Pensieri e dottrine' selected from Rosmini's works (Intra, 873) The life of Rosmini led him to become a metaphysician and a saint, the reviver of the study of Aquinas, the founder of a religious order rather than a man of letters in the wider sense;
