The author aims to prove that the Commedia was composed by a follower of Wiclif about the end of the 15th century. "Apart from the ludicrous weakness or falsity of these socalled arguments, did it never occur to a clever and learned man, as Hardouin certainly was, that (1) many MSS. of the Divina commedia much earlier than 1400 actually exist; and (2) that several commentaries were written in the course of the fourteenth century upon the supposed non-existent poem?"- Moore, Dante and his early biographers, p. 180.
