Some Useful Trade Literature

The Technology Department has an extensive collection of trade catalogues, to which new material is being added almost daily. All publications received, except those of the most ephemeral nature, are indexed by firm name and, with a fair degree of fullness, under subjects.

Among these numerous trade publications there are many which have a distinct educational value. On the following pages are mentioned a few which have recently proved of special interest. Of the large number received this list mentions only a few, not necessarily including those which, considered as catalogues, are most elaborate or most informing; the purpose is rather to suggest certain publications which either by reason of the text or the excellence of the illustrations possess some general appeal aside from the primary purpose of the trade catalogue-to sell goods.

Some of the publications mentioned may be of interest, not only to individual readers of the Monthly Bulletin, but to other libraries. In a small library, however, a large collection becomes unwieldy, and catalogues should not be collected indiscriminately. Most of this trade literature is costly to produce and the generosity of the publishers should not be taxed unless there is a reasonable prospect that the publications requested can be advantageously used.

In indicating the size of catalogues, only approximate dimensions are given.
