The Reading Room and Periodical Room are open to all members of the University, and, upon application to the Librarian, to all others who wish to use the Library for reference or study; but casual visitors are not admitted to these rooms unless introduced by an Officer of the University, or by special permission of the Librarian.

The Seminary Rooms and the White Library are open only to Officers of the University and members of the respective seminaries.

The stacks are not open to students or to the public; but cards of admission for a limited period to specified divisions of the stacks may be given, at the discretion of the Librarian, to persons engaged in special research, on the recommendation of an Officer of instruction. Books carried from their places in the stacks must be left on the tables in the bays.

Books may be taken from the Library only by Officers and Fellows of the University, and by them only after the books have been charged at the delivery desk. Officers sending for books must sign and date an order giving the titles of the books desired.

Books taken from the Library by Officers shall be returned at the end of each term; but renewals can be made by post-card or letter. Bound volumes of periodicals, however, may not be kept longer than two weeks, except by special permission. Fellows are entitled to have in their possession not more than five volumes belonging to the Library at one time, and may retain them not longer than two weeks.

Any borrower may be notified that a particular book held by him has been applied for, and the Librarian may at any time withdraw from circulation all books designated by Officers of instruction as needed for reference by their classes. Infringement of the Rules of the Library will subject the offender to a suspension of his privileges, or to such other penalty as the nature of the case

may require.
